  • It has an important role in many ancient traditions and ceremonies.
  • Amongst Andean cultures and desert tribes some cacti are considered sacred and utilized as a gateway to the spirit world.
  • The same cacti also have medicinal properties.
  • They have been, and still are, inspiration for research, art, music, philosophy and writing.

Why not?

Because of their beliefs and practices indigenous people from the Andes and Mexican and North American plains could benefit from their plant medicine in the medical, religious and spiritual meaning of the word. In accordance with their traditions, the medicine man or shaman fulfills the roles of either doctor, priest, psychologist, and spiritual guide.

Occidental science and society have also discovered the particular properties of the most common Andean and Mexican cacti. The San Pedro cactus and Peyote cactus and their family members are now named hallucinogens. They contain the hallucinogenic substance mescaline, which causes perception alterations or visions and are since. In the 60’s they became known and used among a large number of people in the European and American hippie scene and up to today there are a many individuals around the world who have gained mind-expanding experiences thanks to the magic cactus.
